The Monteserra Butterfly House, the first in southern Italy, is a large tropical aviary where hundreds of the world's most beautiful and extraordinary butterflies, in the most varied shapes and colours, are free to fly. In the midst of its lush vegetation, they can be observed at close range in all their beauty as they feed, fly or rest in an environment that reproduces their natural habitat.

This is a veritable living museum dedicated to butterflies and the world of insects, where scientific rigour is used to provide information, environmental education and raise awareness of the conservation of nature and its resources.

Inside, we find some of the most beautiful and unusual butterflies in the world, such as: the Cobra Moth, for example, which has the shape and colours of the Cobra snake on its wings to defend itself from predators; or the Owl Butterfly, with fake owl eyes; or the famous Leaf Butterfly, which perfectly camouflages itself among real leaves.

The structure has now become the main tourist destination in the area, often linked to the new Etna Museum located less than a kilometre away. From this year, visitors will also be able to enjoy the new exhibition spaces dedicated to the Silkworm (also a lepidopteran!) and the Leafcutter Ants.

The Casa delle Farfalle is located inside the Parco Monte Serra di Viagrande (CT), a protected natural area in the Etnean territory, equipped for recreational activities with nature trails, picnic areas and a children's playground, ideal for spending a day in the open air in a natural environment that is easily accessible to all.

I would like to thank all my photography students who made this wonderful photographic portfolio at the Casa delle Farfalle.
